University Technology Commercialization

Bissex & Watson P.C. believes that the commercialization of technology is one of the cornerstones of the economic success of the United States, and that a focus on the commercialization of technology is one of the key elements of the country’s efforts to resume its economic growth after the downturn of 2008. A significant portion of the federal government’s stimulus funds has gone to support research at the country’s universities and research institutions, and it is important that this research result in commercialized products that create jobs and new business opportunities.

Bissex & Watson, P.C. represents universities, companies, entrepreneurs, and investors in the commercialization of technology. The firm assists the various parties to a technology transfer transaction to bridge the gap between academia and the business community. Representation includes negotiating licenses; negotiating registration rights, tag-along rights, preemptive rights, and other equity ownership rights; and negotiating angel investment, venture capital, and other funding transactions. Walter Bissex is an active member of the Association of University Technology Managers and serves as an editor of a portion of AUTM’s Technology Transfer Practice Manual dealing with spin-outs.
